Voluntary, Community and Faith sector resources
Those who work in the Voluntary, Community and Faith (VCF) sector are committed, knowledgeable individuals and professionals, and the Sheffield Children Safeguarding Partnership (SCSP) wishes to both acknowledge and support the work they do with children and young people in the city.
We know that child protection and the safeguarding of children and young people can present real challenges for the VCF sector, particularly so for those smaller organisations who may feel overwhelmed by the legislation and guidance that surrounds the work. We hope that the guidance document below, developed to meet the specific needs of the VCF sector, will be a useful tool in supporting this important task
Although the legal definition of a child is a child up to their 18th birthday, safeguarding responsibilities do not stop when a young person reaches this age and many young people continue to have support needs into early adulthood and beyond.
The guidance document below covers safeguarding policy, practice, advice and guidance as relating to both children & young people and vulnerable adults in Sheffield, and is intended as an important element of the support the SCSP provides to the sector.
The NSPCC website also has tools and resources to support non-statutory organisations that work with children and young people up to the age of 25 to put clear safeguarding arrangements in place. All are available for free download, including:
The Charity Commission has also produced a number of guidance documents aimed at charity trustees, employees and volunteers including:
Training:
The SCSP also provides a comprehensive programme of safeguarding children training, which is available free of charge to anyone working or volunteering in the VCF and the 'not for profit' sector.
